New! Ethiopia Liaison for Fistula Japan!
Mika, our Ethiopia Liaison, lives in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
She is a social development consultant and a mother of 2 small children.
Through her involvement in projects on transport and social service accessibility,
mobility in the developing world, she learned about fistula through a
World Bank transport and fistula workshop.
She also learned of the importance of the transport sector in lowering
maternal mortality, child mortality, both Millennium Development Goals
which the international community has agreed to act upon.
In the autumn of 2004, Mika supported a World Bank project proposal on
emergency health care access which included assisting fistula patients,
as well as project proposals by the Fistula Hospital and a local Ethiopian
transport NGO which aimed to develop emergency health care carts and other
means of transport to transport sick patients to the nearest hospital.
Mika hopes to build a good solid relationship with the
Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital (AAFH), provide real time information from
Ethiopia to Fistula Japan supporters, translate Dr. Catherine Hamlin’s
book which covers some Ethiopian history, describes Addis Ababa and the
fistula problem as well as support Fistula Japan’s management.
She would like to visit the hospital and the patients as much as possible
and realize a “grassroots assistance with a human face” with those supporting
the hospital and fistula patients all over the world from Japan.
